Hatch That Launches

I've just launched HatchThat.com, where I'll be interviewing entrepreneurs to learn more about how they do what they do, what advice and lessons they have, and any other random stuff that might be interesting. You can either check back to the website each week, or sign up using the box on the left to have a copy of each new interview emailed to your inbox each Wednesday. If you've got any feedback or suggestions please use the contact form on the site.

Spotstak in Development

Ok guys there isn't anything there yet but I'm working on it. Spotstak is going to be the best place online to find the hottest spots in Geelong offline. You will be able to browse the places already uploaded and if your favourites are missing you can add them yourself. Spotstak will grow in the future to other cities around Australia. We all know that if you need recommendations on places to go you ask your friends, family and colleagues because you trust them, and this will be an important part of Spotstak too. You can invite your friends and add them to your friends list and then when you search for places to go their opinions will reflect more strongly in the results that you see to give you a better answer. Spotstak is being built by Ross Hill at Thrive. Keep an eye out for our launch at Spotstak.com.

Static Mode Set To Thrive

Turns out I don't have much to write about here, so I will stop. Take a look at Thrive Web Marketing though to see what I am doing over the next while. And of course if you are needing anything to do with quality website design you know where to go!

A Recipe For Blogging

Sun, 09 Apr 2006 12:27:00 GMT

Blogs.

  1. You make them.
  2. The design is cool.
  3. You post every day for a week (if that).
  4. You don’t post for a year.
  5. Make a lame post about not posting.
  6. Redesign!
  7. It says 7 but your really back at 1. Have fun!

This is the pattern to blogging.

Congratulations to Tom - he has gotten to step two on his third blog, the Stormin Storeman. It is an awesome design and one of those weblogs that makes me think it is a damn shame that I use an RSS reader but alas, there is no other way to it.

Shiny Text

Sat, 01 Apr 2006 09:04:00 GMT

I’ve finally got around to getting the template finished - not that it is anything special to look at. Next is automating it a bit and hooking up an RSS feed. If your looking for some cool quotes travel over to www.ShinyText.com and have a look.

3 Tips For Speedy Reading

Wed, 22 Mar 2006 09:06:00 GMT

It sounds like if you want to read fast you have to learn again how to read like you were back in early primary school. Well maybe it is not quite that simple if you want to read really fast but it is good enough for the basics, so here they are.

  1. Use your finger! That’s right stick it on the page and move it from left to right. Guide your eyes along the page.
  2. Don’t read slow. Yeah you needed that one I know. When you look at a photo of a person you look at the whole picture and not just each little freckle. Don’t quote me on this but a quick google search tells me that the average human eye has about a 120 megapixel capacity, how does that compare to your camera? Now that you know that it is time to start using your eyes to their full potential. When you look at a page of writing don’t look at it letter by letter, look at it by groups of words.

  3. Read fast. Your brain thinks at 1000 words per minute, so don’t only give it 100. Force your finger to move faster down the page, not only will you get to the end of the page faster but you will concentrate more so you will actually take more in.

As Daniel from Mental Blank says, “you’ve gotta get on with life.” So don’t waste your time by reading slowly.

The World Is Ending

Fri, 17 Mar 2006 08:34:00 GMT

Global warming has finally taken its toll. Respected news source The Onion reports that the end of the world has started in North America. You can see the details at The Onion.

More recently explosions have been seen in the skies of Melbourne and from the tops of buildings. Mobs of people line the streets and law enforcement officers are everywhere.

Fireworks

In other news, a study has found that dolphins are not so intelligent on land.

I guess that means this will be my last post, at least until morning.

Who knew that Audio is “I hear” in Latin? That’s pretty cool.

If your here reading this site either I’m famous or your probably avoiding work or something, which means you’ll be able to click on the funky little link below and send me an audio message! That’s right you can leave me voicemail off the web - sound is the new text.

The Wait

Fri, 03 Mar 2006 13:01:00 GMT

If there is one thing Melbournians have a lot of experience with it is waiting. Traffic lights, public transport, elevators, lunch. If you want to get from one place to another you can bet on it taking a while. The official figure says that the transport is 92% on time, but keep in mind that they run services at all hours so that figure looks nicer than it feels.

Southern Cross Station

I went to catch the train to melbourne, but the engine was broken so I got a bus ride instead. Now didn’t those statistics predict a one in ten failure rate? Yes it was too good to be true. On the way back to Geelong the 1400 service very slowly turned into the 1425 service.

At uni there is no point leaving our level up on number ten because by the time you get down its time to head back up. Stairs are the answer if your headed down but what crazy person would climb ten floors? That’s right no names come to mind.

Fast food? No. The only fast bit about it is the loosing your patience and your appetite for a cholesterol loaded meal. I think that was probably the last time I’ll see KFC for a while.

Time flies when your having fun right? Well University is fun, but you have to get used to The Wait.

Last Days

Tue, 21 Feb 2006 20:38:00 GMT

Having been on holidays for almost four months it has nearly come to an end. I’ve been lazy, I’ve been busy, I’ve been having lots of fun. I’ve been to the beach quite a lot which has been great.

Bright Sunlight

Now that I have a decent cameraphone I’ve been taking a fair few photos wherever I go, trying to improve the hit and miss ratio as well. A healthy obsession with Flickr fuels me on and I just keep clicking. Having a camera in your pocket all the time definitely kicks arse.

I’ve played around with a few web templates and came up with Cover Hunt which was fun. Shiny Text didn’t quite get finished over summer but it’ll be online in the future.

Tomorrow is the orientation for the Entrepreneurship course at RMIT and classes start next Monday so I’m going to have to get back into the flow of work which hopefully will be fun. Meeting new people and working with them is going to be exciting, who knows what we will come up with? There are so many opportunities and possibilities out there.

So long holidays, I’ll miss you. May we meet again soon.

Handshake

Fri, 10 Feb 2006 12:00:00 GMT

This is a place for some of my thoughts to reverberate and possibly a place to also hear some echoes from others.

Handshake: A short ritual commonly done upon meeting. Its purpose is to demonstrate good will, and possibly originated as a gesture showing that the hand holds no weapon. -Wikipedia

Background

In February 2006 I will start studying Entrepreneurship at RMIT. Last year I finished the Victorian Certificate of Education at Oberon High School.

I live in Geelong, Australia. and enjoy listening to great music, training in Ashihara Karate, travelling, and cruising through teh interwebs.
